Return park to its original purpose

-

Is democracy dead in the Sask. Party? According to one widely accepted definition, democracy is “government of the people, by the people, for the people.”

However, the Sask. Party dominated Provincial Capital Commission (PCC), is, by its actions, consciously undermining this idea of democracy.

Brandt, with the agreement of the Sask. Party government, is determined to go ahead with its 77,500-squarefoot office building in Wascana Park. This comes despite the provincial auditor’s report, stating the building is contrary to the Wascana Centre Master Plan which limits park use to five purposes: Government, education, culture, recreation and environment.

The group No Business in the Park has fought this illegal, ill-conceived plan for three years, beginning with its opposition to the Conexus monstrosity situated next to Darke Hall. We are of the people, by the people and for the people. We are striving to preserve a sacred natural space for generations to come.

Park space and green space are paramount for community wellness. It is well documented that peacefulness and beauty are crucial for mental health.

Premier Moe, I call on you to resurrect democracy and listen to the legitimate voices of your taxpayers who are simply asking that a famous public park be left intact for future generations — a park that unites people and fosters community spirit! Please do the right thing.
