RECYCLING
SARCAN closes until end of pandemic
Acknowledging that the global spread of COVID -19 “is affecting every one of us here in Saskatchewan,” SARCAN temporarily closed all its recycling facilities effective Saturday.
“One lesson that we are all learning in Canada is that the most effective way to minimize risk of the virus’s transmission is to reduce density and maximize social distance,” SARCAN said Saturday in a statement.
SARCAN is the recycling division of the Saskatchewan association that provides services for community organizations that serve people with disabilities.
Although employment creation is at the core of SARCAN’S values, the rates of new infections continue to grow in the province so SARCAN is acting to protect the health and well-being of its 700 “dedicated recyclers,” customers, partners and communities, SARCAN said in the statement.
Facilities will open again once it is safe to do so. Customers are encouraged to save their deposit beverage containers, paint and electronics for their next visit.
SARCAN will be working with the provincial health authorities to determine the appropriate time to reopen facilities to the public.
“Now is the time for all of Saskatchewan and the rest of Canada to pull together to do everything we can to limit the spread of this virus,” SARCAN said in its statement. “Through this collaborative effort, we hope to be back recycling in the near future.”
