Entertainment on livestreaming

- ASHLEY MARTIN

No need to be deprived of live entertainment during COVID-19 social distancing. Here are some of this week’s livestreamed events.

Pianist Katherine Dowling will perform classical music from her Regina home. “When we talk about classical music, we’re really referring to things written like today, and then going back well over 400 years,” Dowling told the Leader-post in January. “It’s just this phenomenal diversity and richness and abundance of material with which to engage.” This concert is part of the #Canadaperforms National Arts Centre series. Thursday, May 14, 6 p.m., on Facebook Live @Katherinedowlingpiano

Also in Regina, Chris Carlier will be “performing songs from his new album, ____ On Earth?, telling stories, drinking Scotch and playing the blacksophone.” The multi-instrumentalist describes his sound as “magic, mellow, melty creative chamber/pop/folk music that goes well with wine.” This is a Saskmusic series concert.

Thursday, May 14, 7 p.m., on Facebook Live @carliermusic

Marie-veronique Bourque plays flute in the Regina Symphony Orchestra and regularly performs unique and jazzy concerts around the city. The latter is more the theme in a livestreamed concert hosted by the Federation des Francophones de Saskatoon. Presented en francais, but music can obviously transcend language barriers. Friday, May 15, 6 p.m., on Facebook Live @ffrancophones

The Cathedral Village Arts Festival starts Monday and runs all week! Regina’s 29th annual festival has adapted to COVID times, which is good news for the rest of the province: concerts, literary events, films and more will all stream online. Even the Victoria Day kickoff parade is going digital! Check Facebook.com/cvafregina or cvaf.ca for all the details.
