Man jailed for ‘revenge porn’ accused of posting more photos
SASKATOON A North Battleford man currently serving an 18-month sentence for posting “revenge porn” of intimate images sent from former romantic partners online now faces four new charges.
Daylan Gary Heidel, 28, is accused of distributing intimate images of four different women without their consent, according to court records. Two of the women were previous victims of Heidel’s, Saskatoon Crown prosecutor Lana Morelli confirmed on Tuesday.
Heidel was sentenced in November 2019 in North Battleford after pleading guilty to four counts of distributing an intimate image without consent, involving four separate women. If he is convicted on the new charges, there would be a total of six victims, Morelli said.
The additional charges were laid last month after new information and two more complainants came forward, Morelli said. The alleged offences stem from between
March 2018 and July 2019 — before Heidel’s initial arrest.
The offence of publishing an intimate image without consent was added to the Criminal Code of Canada in 2015. It pertains to posting images or videos involving nudity or sexual activity “in respect of which, at the time of the recording, there were circumstances that gave rise to a reasonable expectation of privacy” and “the person depicted retains a reasonable expectation of privacy at the time the offence is committed.”
Sentences can be as high as five years in prison.
Heidel is also charged with breaching his undertaking for allegedly posting some of the photos (involved in the new charges) while he was prohibited from using a cellphone or any electronic communication device between March and July 2019.
Morelli said Heidel’s next scheduled court appearance is July 13 in North Battleford.
