The Regina Leader-post Support and Buy Local Auction kicks off today and runs through June 24, offering deep discounts on more than $100,000 worth of incredible goods and services from top local businesses.

The special online event is a way for people to support their favourite local brands, while treating themselves to a stress-free splurge. The auction features an incredible selection of items including kitchen renovations, green fees, lodging, restaurant gift cards and more.

Support and Buy Local features a few different auction styles, depending on the item:

Dutch, Open and Buy Now.

For the first-time bidder, here’s a guide on how to place your bids and save big:

A Dutch Auction is when a seller is offering more than one identical item for sale, so that there may be more than one winner — such as gift certificates. In this style of auction, each bidder can bid for all the items or only some of them. However, all winning bidders need to pay only the lowest qualifying (successful) bid. If there are more successful bids than items available, priority goes to bidder with the highest bid. If bidders have the same highest bid, priority goes to the bidder who submitted their bid first. The Dutch auction style is a great way for bidders to save even more money than they had expected. Hot tip: Sherwood Forest Golf and Country Club is offering gift certificates for a range of values. If you’re on the lookout for great savings, check out the $225 gift certificates available from a starting bid of just $90.

An Open Auction is the more familiar real-time bidding method, in which bidders place their bid and the highest successful bid before the auction closes wins. In this scenario, it’s good to keep an eye on that coveted item to ensure you’re not outbid at the last second. Hot tip: Creative Door Services is offering a black insulated garage door with belt drive operator valued at $2,165 and the starting bid is $866.

There are additionally a select number of items available for immediate sale, under a Buy Now option. These are goods that are listed below retail value, so that no-wait savings are guaranteed for the decisive purchaser. Hot tip: The Diplomat Steakhouse has a number of gift cards available in various denominations. With world class chefs, amazing food and a spectacular dining atmosphere, you’re sure to have a night out to remember. For example, The Diplomat is offering savings of $40 on a $200 gift card, available to buy now at $160.00.

Support and Buy Local Auction closes June 24. Winners will be announced by June 24. Visit leaderpost.com/supportlocal.
