Driver of stolen car containing drugs, gun, ammo arrested
After allegedly fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle, a 29-yearold Alberta man is now facing 21 counts of various vehicle, weapon and drug-related offences
Yorkton RCMP received a report from the Foam Lake detachment on Tuesday to be on the lookout for an erratic driver.
Police located the suspect vehicle in Yorkton and arrested the lone occupant, a man from Grand Prairie, Alta., for flight from a peace officer.
During the arrest, officers searched the vehicle and discovered a loaded firearm, approximately 250 rounds of ammunition, multiple knives, methamphetamine, psilocybin, hydromorphone, various needles, naloxone and unspecified drug paraphernalia. The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen, RCMP said in a news release Friday.
The man is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from peace officer, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of property obtained by less than or equal to $5,000, possession of a Schedule I substance and possession of a schedule III substance
The accused has been remanded into custody and had his first court appearance in Yorkton Provincial Court on Thursday. The investigation is ongoing.
