Neonicotinoids, the world’s most widely used pesticides, were banned by the EU after they were linked to the decline of pollinators. But European governments have authorized their use at a rate of once every two weeks since they were outlawed in 2018, Greenpeace says. Governments may issue short-term emergency exemptions. Greenpeace says these have been granted 67 times in two years, for what it says is just routine control of pests.
