Mosaic Stadium being converted into Sask.'s largest outdoor rink
Riderville is soon becoming Iceville, Saskatchewan's largest outdoor skating surface open to 30 guests at a time.
Starting Friday, the field at Mosaic Stadium will be open for free to skating members of the public until Feb. 28, weather permitting. Guests are asked to pre-register for a dedicated 45-minute time slot via online registration at evrazplace.com.
Registration, which went live at noon Monday, is limited to groups of six.
As approved by the Saskatchewan Health Authority, 30 guests will be allowed on the ice at one time, Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) announced Monday. COVID guidelines like masks and physical distancing will be enforced throughout the venue.
Skating will be closed whenever the temperature reaches -20 or colder, including wind chill, and registered guests will have to resubmit to attend on another date or time.
Guests are asked to enter the stadium at Harvard Lounge on the west side of the stadium no more than 10 minutes before their registered time. Food and drinks are available only in Harvard Lounge and will not be allowed within the stadium or on the field surface. Only water bottles are allowed on the ice.
Washrooms are also available in the lounge.
Dressing rooms are closed, chairs will be available at field level and all personal items are left at your own risk, according to REAL'S website.
On the ice, skating aids are allowed but figure skating, hockey and ringette are not permitted. Sticks and pucks are not allowed.
Shoes are restricted to centre ice for guardians of inexperienced skaters. Skaters cannot loiter next to, or sit on, the boards to prevent blocking traffic. Skaters cannot wear headphones or carry an infant.
Helmets are recommended but not mandatory. REAL says anyone displaying “unacceptable behaviour” may be asked to leave.
Non-perishable food item donations for the Regina Food Bank are encouraged.
Iceville is presented by Sasktel and music will be supplied by Play 92.1 FM.
