Michael Deren was born December 4, 1929, just outside of Lampman, Saskatchew­an and he lived his entire life in the immediate vicinity, passing peacefully in Lampman on August 31, 2022.

Michael was a hard-working and successful farmer, but his real passion was community service. This was especially true in his decades long career as a school trustee at all levels, including as the Chair of the Estevan Rural School Unit and Vice-president of Saskatchew­an School Trustees. He was noted throughout the province for his leadership, in spite of his stutter. In his later years he devoted a great deal of time to exploring his faith and his spiritual beliefs.

Michael was predecease­d by his parents, Andrew and Emilie (Bloch) Deren, and his older brother, Tony. Michael is survived by his wife Georgina (Doty) with whom he enjoyed a remarkably close relationsh­ip of well over 70 years; his family: son Gregory (Terrie Dunand), granddaugh­ter Christina, great grandchild­ren Hannah Tran (Aeydan Yee) and Nathan Tran, granddaugh­ter Natasha (Dale Redding), great-granddaugh­ter Jessica Redding (Robert Gaetz); son Douglas

(Penny), granddaugh­ter Naomi (Jason Vellenowet­h), great-grandchild­ren Brydon Vellenowet­h and Conley, grandson Corbett (Aimee), greatgrand­sons Ty and Ben, granddaugh­ter Amery (Bre) and great-grandchild­ren Donte, Sierra, Mia, Emily, Eva and Laine; daughter Mary (Alvin Dube), grandson Nevin (Jenny) Dube, greatgrand­children Madi and Mckenna, grandson Noel (Jena) Dube, greatgrand­children Andi and Bexx, grandson Nigel Dube; daughter Laura, granddaugh­ter Tegan (Robin) Lecomte, great-grandchild­ren Jaxon and Ethan, grandson Alex Fehr; daughter Paula (Bruce) Hesselink, grandson Jake Hesselink; other children also part of the family, Tanalee

Hesse (Gord Howie), and Anu Bakshi (Sunil Varughese) and their children Jaya and Dev.

A service commemorat­ing Michael's life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Lampman Branch on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. A time of

lunch will be held following the service. For those who are unable to attend the service in person, you are invited to join the family virtually, via live stream.
