FRESH SHAPES
The landscape of contemporary design and art in Beirut, Lebanon, is rapidly growing, with retail tycoon Tony Salamé behind much of the city’s development. This winter, Aïshti Foundation, an impressive new 40,000-square-foot space, will open in the city’s east end. Designed by awardwinning architect David Adjaye—his resumé includes the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC—the gallery’s modern appearance is a refreshing addition to the city’s coastline. Massimiliano Gioni, artistic director of New York’s New Museum, will curate the inaugural exhibition. aishti.com
