Suspect flees fiery car chase
A car chase Tuesday night ended with a woman in hospital and a car in flames on Saskatoon’s west side.
At 9 p.m. a city police patrol unit spotted a vehicle at 22nd Street and Confederation Drive that officers believed contained a person who was wanted for outstanding criminal code warrants.
Officers tried to pull the vehicle over, but it accelerated north on Confederation Drive. The police unit followed.
The suspect vehicle struck another northbound vehicle near John A. MacDonald Road, causing it to hit a light post and a parked car. This caused the engine of the suspect vehicle to catch fire.
The suspect vehicle then turned east on 33rd Street. When it was next spotted by police, it was slowly rolling down 33rd Street without a driver.
The car hit a city transit bus in the 3200 block of 33rd Street and then came to rest.
The male driver had fled from the vehicle and was not apprehended. A female passenger in the suspect vehicle was transported to hospital with minor injuries. No other people were hurt.
