Dempsey scores in OT for Wings

The Weyburn Gold Wings outlasted the Prince Albert Bears with a 2-1 overtime win in the teams’ girls’ midget triple-A semifinal match on Tuesday night.

Morgan Willoughby got the Bears on the board with a goal in the first period but Kassidy Sjostrand tied it up late in the third to send it to overtime. Caitlin Dempsey picked up the game-winner just 2:26 into overtime.

Jane Kish earned the win, making 40 saves, while Jessica Vance stopped 43 in a losing effort.

Game 2 of the series is Saturday while the other semifinal series started with a late game on Wednesday night between the Regina Rebels and Swift Current Wildcats.
