NSBA recognizes firms’ excellence

- SCOTT LARSON

Wayne Wilson said it was a surprise and an honour to have Business Furnishings win the Business Builder Award for the second time.

“For this to come back 11 years later, wow, it says we are still on the right path,” Wilson, who co-owns Business Furnishings with Bob Kenny, Deb Jurgens, Dennis Belisle and Jake Montgomery, said. “We still haven’t lost our focus and our goal, which is to get the job done for the customer.”

The award was part of the North Saskatoon Business Association’s Business Builder Awards, which were handed out Thursday night at Prairieland Park.

The award Business Furnishings won is given to an NSBA firm recognized by NSBA members for contributing to the success of NSBA members.

“It makes you feel proud because it came out of the blue,” Wilson said. “You don’t get nominated for this award.”

The company, which began in 1982, had previously won the ward in 2003. They provide corporate clients throughout the province with workplace solutions and employ about 30 people at locations in Saskatoon and Regina. Wilson said the award is a testament to the staff and their clients.

“We have a committed group of people,” Wilson, a former NSBA president, said. “And a significant amount of our clients are repeat business.

“That does our hearts really good, because we truly do rely on referrals and business-to-business networking that has built up our company.”

The award, Wilson said, is also a reflection of the amount of volunteer and community work done by Business Furnishings staff, like participating in the University Cup, the Huskie Football Foundation, the United Way, Junior Achievement, the Jazz Society, the food bank, refereeing in an inner-city hockey league and contributing to charities like Ronald McDonald House.

“When you are generating revenue from the community, the least you can do is somehow give back,” Wilson said.

NSBA president Dale Lemke said all of the business were honoured for their creativity, commitment and hard work

“They stand out as examples of the impressive business people we have in Saskatoon, showing values that we can all learn from and respect.”

“We bill this as a night where we honour our own,” Keith Moen, executive director for the NSBA, added. “But more than that, this evening is about acknowledging and celebrating the success, leadership, ingenuity, and in some cases the persistence of our peers.”
