Three struck by vehicles in less than an hour
Three people were hit by vehicles in separate incidents within 40 minutes on Tuesday morning.
“Luckily we had no major injuries,” MD Ambulance spokesman Troy Davies said.
“We do, however, want to remind drivers to drive defensively and ask pedestrians to ensure that vehicles see you when crossing the street.”
The first incident happened at 8:15 a.m., when a pedestrian crossing against a light at the downtown bus mall on 23rd Street East was hit by a Saskatoon Transit bus. MD Ambulance said the 51-yearold man was taken to hospital.
The second incident happened at the intersection of John A. MacDonald Road and Confederation Drive around 8:37 a.m., when an eight-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle. The child was taken to hospital. City police said the motorist received a ticket.
Minutes later, police and paramedics were called to the 300 block of Jan Crescent, after a 12-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle while riding a bike. Paramedics said the boy was hit at a very low speed and was treated and released at the scene. Police said the motorist received a ticket for failing to yield.
Last week, a five-year-old boy was hit by a car and sent to hospital with serious injuries.
“Usually when we see accidents with kids, we use it as an opportunity to remind parents to talk to children and tell them to be aware of vehicles,” Davies said.
“It’s more than just looking both ways; there are a lot of distractions with drivers now, so make eye contact with the driver before you cross.”
