NEW INDUCTEES FOR SPORTS HALL OF FAME
BUILDERS
Toni Beerling, athletics: Forty years as an athletics official, specializing in long jump and triple jump, sent Beerling to the world championships, Commonwealth Games and Pan Am Games.
Bill Remenda, baseball: Umpired the 1990 world championship in Edmonton and three world youth championships, and has worked every level from city to provincial to national.
Peter Sereda, softball: Started as a player, served as longtime head and assistant coach, as well as a manager, also worked as an umpire, and was instrumental in landing a permanent home for the softball community at Gordie Howe Park.
Bill Woronuik, hockey, Softball: Western Hockey League official, referee-in-chief with the Saskatchewan Amateur Hockey Association. In softball, umpired at the city, provincial, regional, national and world levels.
ATHLETES
Eugene Hritzuk, curling: Represented Saskatchewan at the 1985 and 1988 Briers; reached the final the second time. Played at 10 Canadian masters and seniors championships, and won world seniors crown in 2009.
Dana Kidd, golf: Only Saskatchewan golfer to capture the Canadian junior women’s title, winning by three strokes in 1992. Competed at Canadian juniors four times, winning under-16 in 1990 and under-17 in 1991. Attended University of Kentucky on a golf scholarship.
Bobby Dawes, hockey: Won 1944 Memorial Cup with Oshawa and the 1949 Stanley Cup with Toronto. Spent four NHL seasons with Toronto and Montreal; wrapped up his organized hockey career with his hometown Saskatoon Quakers.
TEAMS
2002-03 Marliese Miller curling team: included third Teejay Surik, second Janelle Lemon and lead Chelsey Bell; beat USA 5-4 in world final. All four were named tournament all-stars. Advanced to worlds with a 6-4 win over Nova Scotia at nationals.
2004-05 Saskatoon Contacts hockey team: Placed first overall during Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League play, went 16-4-1 in the post-season and beat the Gatineau Intrepide 4-1 to win the Telus Cup. Also won the Mac’s Midget international tournament.
