Three-year sentence for fatal beating

EDMONTON — A Morinville man who claimed he was defending himself from a sexual assault when he fatally beat a fellow guest at a Whitecourt home in January 2012 was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison.

After credit for time already served in custody, William Robert Kootenay, 24, has two years and eight months left to serve.

In December 2013, Kootenay pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 49-year-old Dolan Gordon Badger.
