RCMP officer saves northern woman from burning house
A Saskatchewan RCMP member tasked with directing traffic in a northern community ended up saving a 21-year-old woman from a house fire on Tuesday.
According to an RCMP news release, the Deschambault Lake RCMP member, who has not been named, was directing traffic in the community when he noticed smoke coming from a nearby home.
The officer entered the home and found the woman asleep on a couch. He woke her up and got her safely out as flames engulfed the back of the building.
The officer was told there could be children inside and re-entered the burning home, but left after determining it was too dangerous to search further. The children were located safely outside a short time later.
The home was “completely de- stroyed” but the Deschambault Lake fire service prevented the blaze from spreading to neighbouring houses, the release noted.
RCMP are investigating the cause of the fire.
Deschambault Lake is located about 500 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.
