Golf exemption for tennis player

-

A tennis player is headlining the list of exemptions for this year’s SIGA Dakota Dunes Open.

U.S. professional tennis player Mardy Fish has received a sponsor’s exemption. Fish is an eight-time winner on the ATP Tour and an Olympic silver medallist. Until recently he was the top-ranked American tennis player, but he’s aiming to become a professional golfer. Fish’s goal is to be the first person to play both the U.S. Open of tennis and the U.S. Open of golf in almost 100 years.

Other sponsor exemptions include Saskatoon’s David Stewart, the 2008 and 2013 amateur men’s champion, and Jeff Chambers of Swift Current, who was the 2011 Saskatchewan player of the year. Rounding out the exemptions are Saskatoon’s Jerry Christiansen, Fort Worth’s Ian Ford and Dakota Cameron of Beardy’s First Nation.

The tournament goes from July 3-6 at Dakota Dunes Golf Links.
