United Way Campaign Update

- LESLIE VANDERLINDE UNITEDWAY

United Way of Saskatoon and Area is in the business of changing lives. They have developed a strong network of resources, partnerships and knowledge in order to create sustainable change in Saskatoon and area. These collective resources are strategically allocated within the community and surrounding area to build an environment where everyone can participate, reach their goals and live a better life.

United Way’s annual Community Campaign, comprised of corporate, union, employee and individual giving, is the organization’s primary source of revenue. Each year, the objective of the Community Campaign is to raise as many resources as possible to support the goals of: moving people from poverty to possibility; helping kids be all that they can be; and building strong communities.

In Saskatoon and area many individuals and families are living in vulnerable situations – struggling to get through each day. They come from all backgrounds and all corners of the community. They may be your loved ones, your friends, your neighbours… or you. United Way investments ensure everyone has the support they need, when they need it.

On Tuesday September 9, 2014, United Way of Saskatoon and Area officially launched the 2014 Community Campaign with a goal of “$6 Million and Beyond!” for the community.

Nearly 350 United Way supporters participated in a Walking Parade through downtown Saskatoon. Participants showed their support by wearing United Way colors of red and white, and carried signs announcing this year’s goal. A breakfast and program sponsored by UFCW Provincial Council followed at Radisson Hotel Saskatoon. The program included greetings from Mayor Don Atchison, and comments from United Way Board Chair Lea Pennock.

“By bringing everyone together to work towards a common goal we will achieve more than any one of us could do on our own. Our collective efforts will transform our community into a better place for everyone. This is a true United Win,” said Pennock.

Since it’s inception in 1959 the collective efforts of United Way, its supporters and partners, have raised and invested more than $80 million into the Saskatoon area. They are thankful for the continuing support of everyone who makes this possible.
