CFL POWER RANKINGS WEEK 10

-

1. (1) CALGARY

How are the Stamps the best team in the CFL? They are scoring the most points. They are allowing the fewest points. They are the only team that hasn’t lost at home this season. They are the only team getting more than five yards per carry, which is big. They have thrown the fewest interceptions. They lead the league with just 10 sacks surrendered. We could continue.

2. (5) HAMILTON

Quarterback Zach Collaros got all the rust off easily thanks to a game of pitch and catch with his receivers last Saturday; the Roughriders just happened to be on the field at the same time. The Ticats are mean with Collaros at the controls, and they showed it.

3. (2) B.C.

The Leos and Stamps were supposed to be the big game of the week. The clash of the titans. Instead, the Stamps told the Lions to go back and try again if they want to become a West Division contender. Absolutely nothing worked for the Orange and Black against the superior Red and White and they fell back into the West pack.

4. (3) OTTAWA

The Redblacks became the second team this season to make a No. 1 quarterback change as Trevor Harris returns from an injury to replace Henry Burris. Smilin’ Hank hasn’t been terrible, but Harris has been spectacular and might be able to make up for deficiencies throughout the rest of the roster.

5. (4) WINNIPEG

The Bombers, the last team to get the bye this year, didn’t have enough time off to get everyone healthy — only defensive back Johnny Adams and offensive lineman Jermarcus Hardrick appear ready to return Friday in Montreal. Matt Nichols and the Bombers will be looking to win four games in a row for the first time since 2011.

6. (6) EDMONTON

As long as they have Mike Reilly, they will always have a chance. No. 13 is on pace to produce 6,397 passing yards this season. The last West Division quarterback to top the 6,000 yard mark? Some guy named Doug Flutie in 1993, when Reilly was eight years old.

7. (8) MONTREAL

There is renewed hope in La Belle Province after the Alouettes went into the nation’s capital and laid the boots to the Redblacks. Adding to the excitement this week is the return of running back Tyrell Sutton and slotback Kenny Stafford, who have been out since early July. It won’t make up for the loss of S.J. Green, but it will help.

8. (7) TORONTO

The Boatmen don’t plummet down the power rankings because they simply had a quarterback in Logan Kilgore who couldn’t get the job done. It’s interesting that the Argos said Ricky Ray would be back this week before Saturday’s loss to the Eskimos, because it looked like the team thought, ‘OK, we can take this loss and get back to being competitive next week.’

9. (9) SASKATCHEWAN

The banged up Roughriders were destroyed 53-7 in Hamilton last Saturday, marking the lowest point in another disappointing season. Quarterback Darian Durant had his interception-free streak come to an end at 324 attempts in a big way, as he served up a career high four picks.
