Truman Capote parties on, 32 years after death
Truman Capote’s been dead since 1984, but his ashes are still active in Tinseltown society. Is this quirky or just creepy?
Earlier this week, a story circulated about his ashes bringing US$45,000 at auction. It turns out that the author, a true party animal, bequeathed some of his mortal remains to his old pal Joanne Copeland (once Johnny Carson’s wife) with a request. He wanted her to tote them around to parties, red carpet events, etc. And she did.
But Joanne died last year; her heirs sent the little box to Julien’s, the L.A. auction house.
Nobody’s naming Saturday’s buyer, but CEO Darren Julien told CNN that the purchaser has promised “that Truman will continue his adventures.”
Capote died at age 59. Joanne made it to 83. Sarah Jessica Parker appeared on a fashion-advice show called Style Code Live the other day and talked about her fondness for brightly coloured shoes.
“So sometimes I’ll hold up a pink shoe or a teal shoe and even a shoe that’s satin — that isn’t typically a daytime fabric in this country — and I’ll hold up bobian purple and I’ll say to some really smart, amazing woman who’s accomplished enormous amounts in her life and I’ll say to her, ‘Is your brain any less capable because you’re wearing a purple shoe?’”
(No, I don’t know what “bobian purple” is. Nor do I care. Nor should you.) SJP is 51. It’s a separation, after 11 years and two sons, for Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber, who’s so good in that show Ray Donovan. In a joint statement, they promise to raise the kids together, speak of their enduring “great love, respect, and friendship” etc., etc.
She’s 47. He’s 48. The boy are Alexander (Sasha), 9, and Samuel, 7. Well, that was a nasty scare. Newsweek reported this week that there was some danger of a Will & Grace revival; fortunately this turned out to be just a oneshot anti-Donald Trump skit. Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes, who played the four main characters posted pix from what looks like a rebuilt set from the sitcom. Eric’s holding a script. But now we know: the new 9:37 clip, not unfunny, is on YouTube now. On Saturday, Josh Brolin married model Kathryn Boyd, once his personal assistant.
Josh’s father James Brolin and mother-in-law Barbra Streisand were among the few guests at the ceremony, held in a scenic Blue Ridge mountains village.
