Strings tied to home crowd

- CAM FULLER

Julia Wedman has been around the world in her decade with the acclaimed Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. But nothing beats coming home to Saskatoon, she says. Wedman has spent the week visiting relatives and preparing for Friday’s Baroque concert with the SSO.

“It’s really wonderful being here. Everyone in the symphony has been so incredibly warm and inviting. And it’s always a big treat for me to play in front of an audience with people that I know well and people that I love. That doesn’t necessarily happen so often, especially on tour.

“For me, often the most special concerts are the ones that I look out into the audience and there’s my mother and there’s one of my best friends and there’s my teacher.

“Playing with the symphony this week is especially wonderful because beside me in the symphony is one of my teachers, one of the most inspirational people that I had as a kid growing up, and the conductor is one of the first friends that I made when I was doing my undergraduate when I moved away from Saskatoon. So it’s a very special week this week.”
