The University of Saskatchewan Huskies are riding a nice little wave heading into the post-season.

Just one question: Will that wave wash them up at Griffiths Stadium, or elsewhere?

The playoff-bound Huskies won their third straight game Friday, dismantling the visiting Alberta Golden Bears 48-9. Still unknown is where they’ll play their conference semifinal next weekend.

If Calgary loses to UBC Saturday, the Huskies will place second and host a playoff game this coming Saturday. If Calgary wins, the Huskies will hit the road.

Saskatchewan ends the regular season with a 5-3 mark; they trail Regina and Calgary, both 5-2, and have the edge on 3-4 UBC and Manitoba.

Alberta, victimized Friday, wraps up their campaign with a leagueworst 1-7 record.

Chad Braun’s 62 yard punt-return touchdown midway through Friday’s opening quarter opened the scoring, and propelled the Huskies to a 23-0 halftime lead.

They stretched that edge to 330, spotted Alberta a safety and a touchdown, and extended their edge over the final quarter with a couple of field goals and a Colton Klassen touchdown.

Huskies’ kicker Sean Stenger broke Grant Shaw’s 2009 record for most field goals in a season, running the old mark of 19 up to 22. Stenger hit six, all told, from 33, 26, 37, 24, 16 and 22 yards.

Klassen scored on touchdown runs of one and 20 yards, and Tyler Chow rambled in from 14 yards out.

Alberta’s only touchdown was scored by Ben Kopczynski on a five-yard run.

Chow ran eight times for 79 yards in a winning cause, while Julan Lynch led all ball-catchers with five grabs for 66 yards.

The Huskies out-yarded the Golden Bears 501 to 320.

Saturday’s conference action includes the aforementioned clash between the Dinos and defending Vanier Cup-champion UBC, as well a game pitting Regina against host Manitoba.

Both opening-round playoff games will be played next Saturday.
