Man rescued from SUV after crash 5 kilometres south of city
A 26-year-old man is in hospital with undetermined injuries after the sport utility vehicle he was driving collided with a semitractor/trailer unit roughly five kilometres south of Saskatoon.
The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to the collision on Highway 11 near Grasswood Road shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday. The semitractor trailer unit was upright in the ditch while the SUV, which had sustained “extensive damage” was still on the highway, the fire department said in a release.
The driver of the SUV was trapped in his vehicle and firefighters were required to use hydraulic and battery-powered tools to remove portions of the SUV to get the driver out. He was taken to Royal University Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the semi-tractor/ trailer unit was not injured.
The fire department did not comment on what may have caused the collision and the names of those involved have not yet been released.
