Man charged with murder in teen’s death
A 22-year-old man is charged with first-degree murder after a 16-year-old boy died in Pelican Narrows from apparent gunshot wounds.
RCMP arrested River Blade Storm Linklater, 22, on Tuesday around 3:30 p.m., about 14 hours after Mark Clarence Michel, 16, was pronounced dead from “what appeared to be gunshot wounds,” police said in a news release.
According to RCMP, members of the Pelican Narrows detachment were called Tuesday around 1:20 a.m. to the community’s health centre with a report of an injured boy being taken to the facility. The teen was pronounced dead at the health centre.
Investigators said Michel and a 17-year-old girl had left a home in Pelican Narrows “when they encountered other individuals and an altercation took place outdoors.” The girl did not require medical treatment, RCMP said. Police quickly identified a suspect, who was arrested without incident at a home in the community.
Linklater is also charged with attempted murder and membership in a criminal organization. He was scheduled to appear in Sandy Bay court.
The investigation, which is being conducted with assistance from the major crimes unit and other detachments, is ongoing. An autopsy was conducted Wednesday. Postmedia News
