Band councillor accused of selling drugs released on bail

-

A First Nation band councillor accused of selling drugs has been released on bail.

Clarence Papequash, 64, of the Key First Nation was in Yorkton provincial court on Wednesday. He is charged with drug trafficking, firearms offences and possession of property obtained by crime.

His next court appearance is set for March 14 in Kamsack.

Mounties executed a search warrant last week at a home on the reserve east of Saskatoon. The First Nation’s chief suspended Papequash as a councillor after the charges were laid.

Papequash resigned as chief of the Key First Nation in 2014 when he was sentenced for selling a morphine pill.
