ENDURING SUCCESS

HomeStyles is back with a fun and innovative lineup

- JEANNIE ARMSTRONG

From an innovative tiny home to palatial log mansions crafted by the Timber Kings, there’s so much to discover at HomeStyles 2017. The annual home and lifestyle show returns to Prairieland Park, March 9 to 12, presented by the Saskatoon & Region Home Builders’ Association (SRHBA).

HomeStyles has evolved into one of Western Canada’s largest home shows, attracting visitors from across the province. Jennifer Lamontagne, SRHBA project development associate, says that exhibitor space sold out weeks ago. “With over 250 different exhibitors, we have more exhibitors than ever before.”

Exhibits cover the entire spectrum of home ownership. At HomeStyles, you can explore new neighbourhoods, compare builders and floor plans, catch up on the latest design and decor trends and discuss renovation plans with expert contractors.

HomeStyles organizers have also brought back Marketplace Hall for second year, welcoming boutique retailers specializing in the comforts of home.

One of the reasons for HomeStyles’ enduring success is the SRHBA’s efforts to keep the show fresh, fun and innovative.

The featured celebrity speaker at this year’s show is Andre Chevigny, general manager of Pioneer Log Homes of BC and one of the stars of HGTV Canada’s hit series, Timber Kings. The show follows the day-to-day operations of Pioneer’s master craftsmen as they build luxury log homes around the world.

“I’m really excited about coming to Saskatchewan,” says Chevigny.

The Timber King will appear on the HomeStyles’ Main Stage next Friday. “I’ll be talking a lot about the houses we’ve done in the past and our story of dynamic growth over the past 40 years. I’ll also talk about the importance of building for generations. And of course, we’ll share some cool stuff about the TV show,” says Chevigny.

The newest season of Timber Kings begins airing this weekend on HGTV Canada. “It’s a great season, probably our best yet,” says Chevigny. One of the 10 episodes he’s most excited about revisits some of the Timber Kings’ favourite projects from previous shows. “That’s probably been the biggest single request from viewers — to see what these homes look like three or four years later.”

Another first at HomeStyles is the Tiny Home, created by J&H Builder’s Warehouse. The 225-square foot home on wheels is a marvel, accommodating a living/kitchen area, bathroom with toilet and shower and a loft bedroom, within its tiny footprint. Luxe finishes, including quartz countertops and custom cabinetry, elevate the Tiny Home’s style.

Recognizing the growing interest in the tiny house movement, J&H has launched a new division that will be designing and constructing custom tiny homes that are as simple or as luxurious as its customers’ tastes and budgets dictate.

With so much going on at HomeStyles, it will take more than one day to enjoy all of the exhibits, activities and attractions.

Throughout all four days, the Main Stage Learning Lab will feature informative presentations by local experts on home design, renovation, green building strategies and construction safety.

The Saskatchewan Craft Council and Fresco Interior Design Group will stage sets on either side of the Main Stage, demonstrating ways to enhance your home’s style with works by local artisans.

Home entertaining will be the focus on the Bistro Stage, featuring demos by local food and beverage experts, as well as floral designers.

In Marketplace Hall, the Upcycle Challenge returns for a second year. Local artists will exhibit unique one-of-a-kind decor pieces fashioned from recycled items sourced from Habitat for Humanity Restore. Meet the artists at the show and purchase their creations; all proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity.

Sunday is Family Day at HomeStyles. Bring the kids for a meetand-greet with Peppa Pig, star of her own popular animated TV series. You could win tickets to Peppa Pig’s upcoming live stage show in Regina.

HomeStyles’ hours are from 3 to 9 p.m. on Thursday; 1 to 9 p.m. on Friday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For complete details, visit homestylesonline.com.
