Celebrating right to protest cuts
I am suffering from what
I call Saskatchewan sorrow — sorrow for the loss of the province I loved with its strong social safety net and programs that supported the common good.
This vision of how our tax dollars should be spent is greatly diminished and disappearing fast.
I wonder why a government with such a strong focus on the economy couldn’t have foreseen and planned for the predictable downturn of resource-based revenues. I think what hurts almost as much as the cuts is the way they were done. No warning. No language of regret. Little to no consultation. Many broken promises.
I understand why people are feeling pain and anger.
I celebrate the right to protest.
