Wanted: Acoustic musicians

- ASHLEY ROBINSON

Bryan Adams and the other onstage headliners won’t be the only ones making sweet music at the first concert at the new Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

On Friday, SaskMusic issued a request for acoustic solo performers to play before and during intermissions at the May 27 show, which will be the second test event at the new facility.

“It means quite a bit to be able have our local artists performing and have that sort of representation of the local music scene as well, especially for such a large concert event,” said Ben Valiaho, administrative assistant with SaskMusic.

SaskMusic is partnering with Evraz Place to fill slots from 4-5 p.m., 5-6 p.m., 7-7:30 p.m. and 8:30-9 p.m. The chosen artists will play their instruments while wandering through the crowd during breaks at the inaugural concert, which features Adams, Johnny Reid and Our Lady Peace.

“We had about three hours before the show and in the acts,” said Donna Nielson, vice-president of sport, entertainment and events with Evraz Place.

SaskMusic is looking for artists who can perform up to 45 minutes acoustically (without any amplification or power) such as acoustic guitarists, horn players and fiddlers.

“It’s pretty open-ended (as to what musicians will play),” Valiaho said.

Performers will be paid on a union scale of $150 per solo artist. .

SaskMusic is interested in performers playing preferably upbeat cover songs or original songs that are all-ages friendly.

Interested applicants are asked to fill out a submission form at https://saskmusic.wufoo.eu/forms/x1fwq9cv19xi67m/ by Monday.
