THESE BAGELS PACK A JAVA JOLT

- Laura Brehaut, Postmedia News

Pair this bagel with a cup of coffee and you may get more of a caffeine hit than you bargained for. Colorado-based chain Einstein Bros. Bagels has invented a caffeinated bagel called the Espresso Buzz.

The bread looks like a pumpernickel bagel and gets its caffeine from espresso and flour made from the pulp of coffee cherries. Each one contains about a third of the caffeine you’d find in an average eight-ounce cup of coffee – 32 milligrams.

Fox News reports that Einstein’s caffeinated bagel is the world’s first. The company hopes it will tap into the growing interest in craft coffee.

What do they taste like? Fox News taste testers were split down the middle with one saying, “This tastes like chewy coffee and I’m not sure that’s a good thing.” Another, “I love coffee and I love this. I just wish I had some to drink along with it.”
