SWEET DEAL FOR TRAIN DRIVERS
Engineers on Switzerland’s railway system are being offered sweet incentives to ensure the smooth running of trains.
Chocolates, one of the country’s most celebrated exports, will be offered to drivers as a “token” to comply with regulations aimed at easing pressure on station platforms.
Newspaper 20 Minuten said the operators will be rewarded for bringing their trains to a halt at precise locations on platforms that align with carriage doors. This would improve punctuality by reducing passenger bottlenecks and streamline boarding, the paper said.
A spokesman for SBB — Swiss federal railway — said the project would be tested at three stations.
SBB hopes the chocolate gimmick will convince drivers to get on-board with the new efficiencies after a similar project in 2013 failed when engineers objected.
