Man charged with attempted murder in Denare Beach

Attempted murder, robbery and assaulting a peace officer are among the nearly two dozen charges laid against a 27-year-old man after a 10-minute flurry in the northern Saskatchewan community of Denare Beach.

Creighton and Flin Flon RCMP responded June 2 around 3 p.m. to several complaints of a male assaulting several people and breaking into homes in the village, police said in a news release.

According to investigators, a male suspect assaulted a homeowner inside a residence on Denare Beach. The suspect then broke into a neighbouring home and stole some property before leaving the second residence and attempting to steal an ATV. The man driving the ATV removed the keys and was able to enter a nearby residence, locking the door.

The suspect, according to RCMP, broke into this third home and assaulted the ATV driver.

A man driving by stopped to help, at which point the suspect attempted to steal his vehicle.

Police said all of the break-andenters and assaults took place within 10 minutes of each other.

When Creighton and Flin Flon RCMP arrived at the scene, officers found “community members trying to restrain the suspect.” Police took the suspect into custody.

Three homeowners, as well as the suspect, were taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries, said police. Two RCMP members needed medical treatment for undisclosed injuries.

A 27-year-old man from Flin Flon has been charged with attempted murder, four counts of assault with a weapon, two counts each of assault causing bodily harm, robbery, and uttering threats, and one count each of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, break and enter, resisting arrest, assaulting a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, mischief, and theft under $5,000. He is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Creighton provincial court.

Denare Beach is located about 550 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon, near the SaskatchewanManitoba border.
