‘EVERYTHING IS NEW’ AT THE VAULT RESTAURANT

- JOHN GRAINGER

It’s been 17 years in the making, so Willy Tran is quite confident in the menu offered at The Vault Restaurant.

Tran, the family spokesman, says he had been operating the restaurant in Asquith for more than 17 years, but it was time to move on.

“All our customers used to tell us to move to the city and open there. So finally, we did.”

The restaurant, which has been open for a little more than a week, underwent a complete redesign and renovation over the last eight months.

“We did everything in here from scratch. Everything is new,” says Tran.

Customers are now greeted by vibrant red walls adorned with pictures and tapestries.

But people are not coming just for the decor. They are coming for the food.

The first few days after opening were off-the-charts busy for Tran and surprised him with the great reception from patrons.

“We actually ran out of food the first couple of days. It was beyond our expectations,” he says.

After 17 years of business, The Vault had a bunch of go-to dishes. Tran says some of the fan favourites include spring rolls, cold rolls, ginger beef and pad Thai.

“Once people taste our food, we know they will be back.”

In fact, The Vault has an extensive menu with more than 160 items from Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai and Canadian cuisines. And that doesn’t include the five options offered for breakfast.

Tran is thrilled to have found the location on Pinehouse Drive.

“Really, there’s not a whole lot of (restaurant) options in this area,” he says. “I scouted out everywhere in the city. It just makes sense here. People don’t have to go downtown to get good food. They can come here.” The Vault Restaurant Owners: Alisia Beeds and Wendy Tran Address: 227 D Pinehouse Drive Hours: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily

FINELINE DEVELOPMENTS

Having Ikea’s blessing as the official installer of its products in Saskatoon is nice, but Sven Dorr says his business is much more than just kitchen cabinetry.

FineLine Developments has been in business for about three years, but has seen a real growth in business lately, prompting a move to a newer and more spacious office just off Avenue C in the city’s north end.

“I started basically as a oneman show from the garage,” says Dorr. Now, along with his wife Mary Anderson, Dorr has taken over more than 1,800 square feet of space on one level in the new location in the city’s north end.

“We needed a space where people can stop in and see the cabinets, touch the cabinets, see what we can offer,” Dorr says.

Dorr and his seven employees have put the new space to good use by having a full kitchen on display for customers to look at and be inspired. Dorr and his team will provide as much direction and advice as required. They can put all the plans into a computer and then display them on a big TV screen to give customers a fantastic impression of what to expect. But kitchen work is only part of Dorr’s business.

“We’re not just a kitchen cabinet installer. We do it all, really. We do basements, kitchens, interiors and exterior developments. And we do full renovations.”

There isn’t a project Dorr can’t tackle. He and his staff will gladly go to a customer’s home to get an idea of what is required. He’ll take all the measurements himself to ensure the job is done properly and on time.

Dorr says once a person makes that first phone call, there is a sense of relief when they realize they are in good hands.

“We don’t want a customer to feel any stress with a project.” FineLine Developments Inc. Owners: Sven Dorr, Mary Anderson
