DENT TRAVELS THROUGH MULTIVERSE ON TOUR
DENT MAY
When: Aug. 30
Where: Vangelis Tavern
What: People change. I once said I’d never get a dog. Now you can find me spending hours on Instagram documenting my dog’s life and writing captions in his own voice. Dent May once wrote lyrics that went “Don’t wanna move to Southern California / I wasn’t really meant for LA.” According to his publicity team, he’s now “eating those words with a side of avocado toast in his new Los Angeles bungalow.” The Mississippi musician decided to shake things up both in life and music. The resulting album, Across the Multiverse, draws on that experience with Dent producing the record and playing nearly every instrument himself.
NEW JACOBIN CLUB
When: Aug. 30
Where: Capitol Music Club What: Do you feel that chill in the air? It’s not autumn, it’s the upcoming show by U.K. metal band Diamond Head and Saskatoon’s own New Jacobin Club which will each bring its unique brand of heavy music to the Capitol. New Jacobin Club is known for its gothic, theatrical take on metal, mixing music with performance art. Diamond Head is playing Saskatchewan for the first time with this show. The group helped start the British new wave of heavy metal, which influenced bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden. Diamond Head is touring in support of its self-titled seventh album. Local band Agony Spawn is also on the bill.
GUNS N’ ROSES
When: Aug. 27
Where: Regina, Mosaic Stadium What: This one’s not happening in Saskatoon, but I’m sure a fair few Bridge City citizens will make the drive to Regina to see Guns N’ Roses this weekend. I don’t really consider Regina Paradise City, but I guess they’ve got a more appropriate venue for a show of that size. I’ve travelled to Regina for a few concerts (Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Paul McCartney) but decided not to make the trek this time. The show’s on Sunday night, after all, and I can’t afford to miss Game of Thrones with all the Sally Spoilers online. That’s OK with me, though. I’m more of a Daenerys Targaryen woman than an Axel Rose woman. I’m happy to live vicariously through really terrible iPhone photos and videos posted to Instagram.
