Longtime Catholic trustee Tom Fortosky set to resign

Saskatoon’s Catholic school division will be soon be saying goodbye to a longtime school board trustee.

Tom Fortosky, who was first elected to the Catholic board in 2003, will submit his resignatio­n at Monday’s board meeting, according to a division agenda.

Division chair Diane Boyko, who is set to present the item, said in the agenda it was with “mixed emotions” the division accepts Fortosky’s resignatio­n, noting his “commitment and dedication to Catholic education has been remarkable.”

“The board wishes to sincerely thank Trustee Fortosky for his almost 14 years of dedicated service to Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools,” it continued.

Along with serving the division, Fortosky has also served as the president of the Saskatchew­an Catholic School Board Associatio­n and represente­d the division nationally at the Canadian Catholic School Trustees’ Associatio­n.

According to the agenda, Fortosky will become the new executive director of the Saskatchew­an Catholic School Board Associatio­n.

“The board is confident that Mr. Fortosky will bring his considerab­le skills and experience to bear in helping lead our provincial Catholic school boards forward in the coming years,” said the agenda item. “We wish him all of our best and look forward to working with him in this new capacity.”

Board trustees will determine how to proceed with the vacancy at their next meeting.
