READ SASKATOON
readsaskatoon.com 306-652-5448 READ Saskatoon offers free literacy services with the help of staff, trained volunteers and community partners. The organization began in 1979 with adult tutoring services and has since expanded to offer family and financial literacy programs.
At the heart of READ Saskatoon is the belief that everyone has the right to learn and that communities have a right to
effective literacy programs.
There’s a range of programs for everyone at READ, from confidential one-on-one tutoring for adults to group literacy skills training, plus programs for parents and families. A variety of programs are offered for children, such as Criss Cross Applesauce (a 12-week program for caregivers and their three- to five-year-olds that builds literacy skills and prepares children for school), and Romp ’n Read (a fun, interactive family program for kids aged two to five that combines songs, finger plays, rhymes, storytelling, literacy games and crafts).
Improving literacy skills often leads to better employment opportunities, improved parenting skills and a healthier lifestyle. It also boosts confidence and self-esteem.
Anyone who is 18 years or older and wants to improve their literacy skills can become a READ Saskatoon learner. Make an appointment with READ’s adult program co-ordinator to get started with one-on-one or group tutoring sessions.
One of READ’s newest offerings is financial literacy workshops, which help everyday people gain control of their money habits.
People attending literacy programs through READ can be assured of quality instruction. Volunteer literacy tutors are intuitively trained and receive constant support from staff.
If you’re interested in getting involved, READ is currently looking for committee members and financial literacy volunteers.
