General inquiries: 306-975-7558 The Saskatoon Public Library has always been an organization that supports literacy in Saskatoon. All locations have materials on hand to help adults upgrade their reading, writing, spelling or math skills, along with materials for teachers and tutors.

Library staff are well versed in helping find the materials and services to suit anyone’s learning needs — just ask.

The library is an excellent place for families; it offers everything from organized story time to preschool dance parties — just click on the “Events” tab on SPL’s site for the full schedule.

The library is also the place to get happily lost in the world of books, but if you’re not much of a reader and have no idea where to start, there’s a great resource on the SPL’s website. Just fill in the Your Next Great Read form and a

librarian will get back to you with suggested books that suit your interests.

If you’d like to organize a book club, check out Book Club in a Bag, which will help you pick a title and provides all the resources needed to start a lively group discussion. Kits can be picked up at any branch and borrowed for six weeks; simply submit a request form online.

SPL’s Writer in Residence program, at the Frances Morrison Central Library, is an excellent resource if you would like to improve your writing skills; her role is to mentor writers in the community. This year’s writer, Katherine Lawrence, is also hosting a variety of workshops on select Saturdays aimed at writing extraordinary poems and stories gleaned from an ordinary life.
