INDUSTRIAL CHIC WITH A POLISHED TWIST

Hospital Home Lottery grand prize makes stunning style statement

The opportunity to design and build the grand prize home for the Hospital Home Lottery is both an honour and a challenge, says Donna Senterre, sales and marketing manager for Haven Builders.

“It’s such a worthy cause. We’re honoured to have been asked to design our second Hospital Lottery home.”

Tickets for last fall’s lottery home created by Haven Builders sold out in record time — four weeks before the scheduled early bird deadline. In designing this season’s grand prize home, Haven set out to create a home that would be just as buzz-worthy.

The grand prize home is once again located in the golf-themed community of Greenbryre Estates, at 108 Greenbryre Lane. Valued at $1.3 million, the spectacular walkout offers 2,952 square feet of developed living space.

Haven Builders’ design manager Charissa Surine selected “polished industrial” as the design theme for the home.

“The main floor reflects a polished, contemporary look while the walkout level has a real industrial flair to it,” Senterre says.

A tour of the home reveals an intriguing blend of natural materials: brick, stone, tile, concrete, glass, mixed metals and woods.

Contrasting textures and tones create visual interest in the chefworthy kitchen. Industrial chic is achieved with the placement of Edison retro rose gold lighting fixtures, a brass kitchen faucet and a custom powder-coated steel range hood.

The oyster grey maple cabinets and navy island were crafted by Haven’s in-house shop, complemented by sleek Cambria quartz countertops and a dazzling chevron-patterned tile backsplash. The same tile artisans created the geometric tile surround highlighting the living room fireplace.

Adjacent to the kitchen is a convenient walk-through butler’s pantry, leading to a mud room with direct garage access. Kitchen appliances — including the black stainless fridge, microwave and double wall ovens — are located in the butler’s pantry.

“This is a twist on the traditional butler’s pantry; it really maximizes storage space and keeps the clutter out of the great room,” Senterre says.

With such a scenic location, Haven Builders wanted to invite outdoor views into the home.

“There’s lots of glass throughout this house. We always like to maximize our window space to flood the home with natural light,” Senterre says.

A unique design feature of the home is the outdoor courtyard, which can be accessed from the living room through glass doors.

Haven Builders is known for its use of stylish staircases, and this year’s Hospital Lottery Home is no exception.

“It’s an open riser white oak stair system with a glass railing,” Senterre says.

The staircase leads to the home’s sleeping quarters, including two spacious children’s bedrooms adjoining a jack-and-jill bathroom.

Down the hall and behind two rolling barn doors is the sumptuous master suite, featuring an Italian-inspired walk-in closet, with rift white oak custom shelves, drawers and cubbies.

The ensuite shower in the master bedroom has generated the most buzz, Senterre says.

The walk-in shower is illuminated by a 10x3-foot skylight, creating the feeling of an outdoor shower under the stars. The shower is finished in marble and travertine tile replicating the grain and texture of reclaimed wood.

The home’s lower walkout level is equally impressive, featuring a spacious family room, home office, laundry room and full bathroom. Here, the industrial design theme is even more pronounced, with brick-faced walls and rolling glass barn doors.

The home is situated on a huge lot, measuring 223 by 100 feet, backing onto farm land. A spacious deck with topless glass railing and a covered ground level patio offer unobstructed views of the serene countryside.

Proceeds from the Hospital Home Lottery go to support the needs of Saskatoon’s three hospitals, through the RUH Foundation, St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation and Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation. Tickets are $100 and are more than 50 per cent sold. The “early bird” deadline is Oct. 27.

The show home is open for viewing at 108 Greenbryre Lane, weekends and holidays from noon to 5 p.m. and weekdays from 6 to 9 p.m. Visit hospitalhomelottery.org.
