Rams’ Picton fires five TDs in unpredicta­ble 50-40 win

The Regina Rams unravelled the knot that tied them to the University of Saskatchew­an Huskies Friday night at Griffiths Stadium.

Regina downed the host Huskies 50-40 on a wild, yard-chewing night that saw both teams enter the game with identical 2-2 records. Saskatchew­an, which has lost three straight games after a 2-0 start, slides into fourth place in the six-team conference.

The Rams have alternated wins and losses right from Week 1. On Friday, they led 29-10 at halftime, saw the Huskies close the gap to four and then pulled away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. The crowd was announced at 4,731.

Rams quarterbac­k Noah Picton threw five touchdown passes — as did Huskies counterpar­t Kyle Siemens — while completing 33 of 44 passes for 384 yards and no intercepti­ons. Ryan Schienbein, Mitchell Picton and Atlee Simon scored two touchdowns each for the Rams, who also got a major from Noah Picton.

Mitch Hillis scored touchdowns of 33, 10 and eight yards for the Huskies, who also got majors from Chad Braun and Sam Baker.

Both teams get a Thanksgivi­ngbreak bye this coming weekend before returning to action Oct. 14 — the Huskies host British Columbia, and the Rams play a road game against Alberta.
