GALA CO-CHAIRS MESSAGE:

We were honoured to present an evening that was designed to create a transformative experience as we reconsider our relations with one another in this great city. As we reflect on this amazing production on the banks of the river, let us open ourselves to the spirit of this gathering place that has become Saskatoon. The storm of reconciliation rages around us – we see it more and more frequently challenging what we thought we knew, but as the storm clears, let us embrace anew the shared experience that reminds us of why we chose this place called Saskatoon and how we can shape it for the future. Let’s celebrate the diversity of talent and culture that draws us to its banks. And let us consider anew our good relations with one another.

This gala has given us an amazing opportunity to work side by side with community volunteers, a talented production crew and performers, and our honoured cultural advisors, Eugene and Lorna Arcand. We humbly thank Lorna and Eugene for their guidance and teachings along the way, and their genuine kindness in giving their time to this endeavour.

Residential schools represent one of the darkest chapters of Canadian history. We sought to honour those survivors through this event – they are the very real and present reminder of what has been but also offer hope for a renewed future.

Looking forward we celebrate Saskatoon. We are connected by the river that leads us to express our culture, reconsider our history and chart our future.
