Sask Party says government server not working
In sending that reply, Young accidentally included a Postmedia reporter among its recipients.
Asked about the premier’s use of private emails and the exchange, Young said in a statement Wall has previously said there would be times he would inadvertently use his SaskParty account “since he used it for years.”
“He has used it at times when government emails accounts have experienced issues (which has been fairly often) as well,” read the statement.
When asked about her government email working when Wall’s was down, Young said in the statement: “Not sure how to provide that except to say Premier’s government email wasn’t working for the better part of two weeks in September — and this was one of the days.”
Young reiterated that Wall’s government-related emails from his private account are all in the process of being transferred to government servers.
“Premier has rarely used the SaskParty account for government business except for times when there were technical issues and his government email wasn’t working — as was the case in this particular email. Reminders were sent out more than once reminding everyone of which email address to use,” she said in the statement.
Her statement also indicated the province’s privacy commissioner is aware of the premier “rarely using the SaskParty account and the fact that all the emails are being transferred to the government server – and will be archived.”
NDP Opposition Leader Nicole Sarauer questioned what purpose Wall could still have for using the private email server.
“The Premier stood up in this house towards the end of last session and acknowledged that he was using his private email that was housed at the party office for government business, acknowledged it was a problem and said that he was going to stop doing this. It’s clear from this email he has not stopped doing that,” she said.
