AUTUMN is AWESOME
Autumn is colour
A splash of gold has hit the trees outside, and inside autumn has brought a bumper crop of fall colours to Lawson Heights Mall, with a mix of rich, velvety tones like purple, burgundy, navy, wine, emerald and caramel.
“We’re definitely seeing the classic fall colours,” notes marketing director Megan Powell, “Which is nice, since they all mix together so well.”
Other colours making an appearance are black, white and mustard. As well, Powell notes a few surprising hues are popping up in stores. Unexpected pastels in pink and blue seemed to have stayed over from spring.
“It’s a nice complement to the jewel tones,” notes Powell.
Autumn is texture
Every fall it seems the stores fill with all kinds of textures. Chunky knits, complicated tweeds, leather and suede – whether faux or real – are back. And these textures are enjoying some unusual applications. You can find suede ball caps, skirts, not to mention suede accents on jackets or leggings.
And autumn wouldn’t be complete without the soft flannel plaid shirts in a variety of colours. It’s the go-to look when comfort is required – for a weekend of relaxing or hanging out with friends.
Autumn is layers
There’s no getting away from the need for warm luscious layers this fall. There are so many attractive and flattering options. A leather jacket with a snappy scarf, a long vest over a knit legging, or a poncho over a new pair of kicks, layers will bring warmth, colour and texture to all your fall outfits.
“We’re seeing a lot of the camisoles, but they’re coming out with cute little criss-cross details at the neck,” says Powell. “Everyone has a camisole in their closet, but this is a nice change and a new detail this year.”
Powell says pumping up your fall wardrobe should include three must-haves. She suggests a piece of leather or suede and a good scarf for layering.
Autumn is florals
Powell also suggests adding something floral to your fall wardrobe. “We’re seeing lots of florals, whether that’s a blouse or a pant or a shoe.”
Flower prints are new for a fall trend and make a fun addition to break up the ho-hum darker tones of blazers or skirts for the office. They can mix and match easily whether you’re headed to the office or out for drinks with friends.
There are plenty of great finds at Lawson Heights Mall and plenty of styles and sizes to choose from.
“We have fashion for everyone from age tweens and up. And we have all sizes as well. We have a few stores that offer plus sizes or extended sizes as they call them,” says Powell.
Recently, Lawson Heights Mall saw a former retailer relocate and renovate. Suzy Shier took over the former Warehouse One location, while Warehouse One moved to freshly renovated space. This new Suzy Shier location is the only one in Saskatoon.
There are still more changes coming to the Mall in the next year. Scotia Bank is building a stand-alone location in the parking lot, while Canada Safeway will relocate to the renovated space on the west end of the mall. Motion Fitness will then move into the current Safeway location.
Lawson Heights Mall also offers the opportunity to shop and dine with the addition of Browns Socialhouse opening this summer and Famoso last year.
“You have the opportunity to choose great sit-down restaurants and we always have the indulgent food court choices as well,” notes Powell.
The food court also has some healthier choices such as Booster Juice. If you’re just looking for a quick coffee, there’s always Starbucks in the mall, and Tim Horton’s in the parking lot. It’s the perfect combo for shopping and relaxing this fall.
