A family home with space to spare

- JENNIFER JACOBY-SMITH

Located in the Kensington neighbourhood at 554 Childers Crescent, Streetscape Homes’ latest show home features a popular floor plan with an added fourth bedroom.

Streetscape’s Yvan LeBlanc says the company has seen an increase in the number of requests for four bedroom homes.

“We’ve had larger families and larger multi-generation families who want more bedrooms so we thought we would build a show home that reflected that,” says LeBlanc.

As a result, the Kensington show home is a spacious two-storey layout with 1,992 square feet, four bedrooms and three baths.

The oversized garage has extra room for a hobby area or storage, as well as a pass-through door for storing recreational vehicles in the side yard.

Included in the home price is front-yard landscaping, driveway, appliance package and rear deck. That, coupled with the lowmaintenance exterior and siding, means buyers will be able to move in and enjoy.

Nine-foot ceilings on the main level create a feeling of space.

Large windows flood the main level with lots of natural light.

A gas fireplace adds a touch of warmth and gives a focal point to the living area.

The kitchen includes a large, angled island with an extended eating bar and corner pantry.

The show home also boasts highly desirable features such as traditional hardwood flooring, quartz countertops and glass tile backsplash.

White upper cabinetry is a bright addition to the modern kitchen with built-in wall microwave, built-in dishwasher and stainless steel range hood.

Upstairs the owner’s suite has a huge ensuite and a walk-in closet that Leblanc jokes could serve as “fifth bedroom.”

The bathroom has dual sink vanity and large tiled shower.

In addition to three other amplesized bedrooms upstairs, the floor plan allows for a small sitting area that could function as a computer station, reading nook or play area for the kids.

“So you still kind of have a bonus area, even though you have four bedrooms,” says LeBlanc.

“We’ve had really good feedback about the cosy nook. It’s a great place to get away or watch TV or read.”

As part of Streetscape’s commitment to environmental initiatives, each home has a tankless hot water heater, low VOC (volatile organic compounds), R-20 insulation in basement walls, and R-50 in attic, digital programmable thermostat and PVC triple-glazed low E argon windows and an ultra-high efficiency Lennox furnace.

This show home has also been “blower” tested to ensure each home is tightly sealed and achieves less than 2.0 air changes per hour.

Of course, to make this a truly modern home, Streetscape adds smart lighting switches by Lutron, accessible through the Lutron phone app, and built-in speakers for home-wide music.

The speakers can be looped into your phone, tablet or other smart device.

To view this Streetscape show home visit 554 Childers Crescent in Kensington Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.
