Battlefords RCMP probing gunshot incidents

-

Battlefords RCMP are investigating multiple serious crimes, including home invasions and shots being fired.

On Wednesday morning, police responded to two incidents just over one hour apart in which firearms were involved.

The first was at 1:39 a.m., when a resident on 111th Street in North Battleford reported hearing several gunshots, according to an RCMP news release.

Battlefords RCMP located a home in the 1400 block of 114th Street with several bullet holes, police said. The occupant of the home wasn’t injured, but refused to co-operate with police.

At 2:49 a.m., RCMP were called to a home in the 1100 block of 109th Street, where they were told three men with firearms had kicked in the front door, stolen anything of value and left in a stolen vehicle.

While on patrol looking for the suspects, police heard more shots being fired.

They located the suspect vehicle and tried to stop it, but the driver refused to stop and fled the scene, police said. Officers chased the vehicle, but the pursuit was called off due to unsafe road conditions “and the manner in which the suspect vehicle was being operated.”

The vehicle was later found abandoned in Cut Knife.

The night before, on Tuesday at 7:50 p.m., RCMP were called to the 1000 block of 104th Street, where they found a 34-year-old man bleeding from several stab wounds. He was taken to Saskatoon for surgery and is expected to recover, police said. None of the three incidents is believed to be random, police said.
