Blades lose to Silvertips on road trip

The Blades continued their U.S. road swing, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night. Their game on Sunday evening against the host Portland Winterhawk­s was still in action at press time.

Saskatoon generated 30 shots on Saturday, but they were all stopped by Silvertips goalie Carter Hart. Nolan Maier stopped 34 in a losing effort for the Blades.

Headed into their Sunday game, the Blades were 10-14-2-1 with 23 points and had fallen four points behind the Prince Albert Raiders for the final Eastern Conference wild card spot. Saskatoon concludes their U.S. trip against the Seattle Thunderbir­ds on Tuesday.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL SEASON UNDERWAY

Four different teams were crowned champions on Saturday at the Bowlt Classic basketball tournament that unofficial­ly kicks off the high school season. On the girls’ side the Aden Bowman Bears won a hard fought Gold Pool championsh­ip, defeating Prince Albert Carlton 68-65 in the final game. Ashley de Sousa Martins was named the MVP. Centennial defeated Walter Murray 77-72 in the bronze medal match. Girls Orange Pool winners were Moose Jaw Peacock, who defeated Swift Current in the final. Tommy Douglas picked up a bronze medal.

In boys’ action, the Marion Graham Falcons were Gold Bracket winners, taking an 88-69 victory over the Regina Campbell Tartans. Alexander Dewar was the player of the game in the final. Holy Cross defeated Bishop Mahoney in the bronze medal game. Boys’ Orange bracket winners were the Aden Bowman Bears, who defeated Centennial 74-67 in the final. Regina Winston Knoll defeated Tommy Douglas for bronze.
