U of S men’s basketball play one game for spot in Canada West playoffs

It’s playoff time for Huskies hoops.

A Canada West conference playin has the University of Saskatchew­an Huskies playing host to the University of Victoria Vikes in a one-game playoff to see who advances to the men’s basketball quarter-finals.

Game time is 7 p.m. Friday on Ron and Jane Graham Court at the Physical Activity Complex.

In Canada West women’s basketball, the U of S Huskies — ranked No. 7 in the country by U Sports — will play host to a conference quarter-final best-of-three series next week with games slated for Thursday, Friday and, if necessary, Saturday at the PAC.

HOCKEY

The U of S men’s hockey team — ranked No. 5 in Canada — will wind up its regular season with a twogame series at home against the Mount Royal Cougars (12-12-2).

The Huskies (18-7-1) are three points up on the third-place Manitoba Bisons (16-8-2) and have the tiebreaker advantage should the two teams finish tied.

Saskatchew­an can secure second place and a first-round quarterfin­al playoff bye with a win, tie or overtime loss this weekend. Should the Dogs hang onto second place, they will play host to a bestof-three semifinal in two weeks at Rutherford Rink.

The U of S women’s hockey squad (16-7-1-2) is in Calgary to wrap up the regular season against the Mount Royal Cougars (7-15-3-1).

The Huskies, who are fourth in the Canada West standings, have already clinched a playoff spot and will host either a conference quarter-final or semifinal. They could still finish top-two in the conference and get a first-round bye to advance to the semifinal.

WRESTLING

University of Saskatchew­an wrestlers will be in Edmonton this weekend for the Canada West wrestling championsh­ip to decide who advances to the U Sport national championsh­ip Feb. 23-24 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
