SKELETON
1
Kids, don’t try this at home — sledding down an ice track at speeds in excess of 140 km/ h.
2
Skeleton racers run alongside their sleds for a few seconds before vaulting stomachdown onto the sled.
3
Olympic sports come and go. Skeleton did. Part of the 1928 and 1948 Games, it was discontinued until 2002 and has been a mainstay since.
4
Canadians fell in love with skeleton overnight when three racers won medals in Turin 2006: Duff Gibson, gold; Jeff Pain, silver; and Mellisa Hollingsworth, bronze. Jon Montgomery won gold at the Vancouver 2010 Games.
5
Montgomery became a Canadian legend when he chugged a full pitcher of beer on live TV at Whistler Village.
