Man’s death on Avenue P is homicide, police say

Saskatoon police are now investigat­ing the death of a 28-year-old man as a homicide.

A heavy city police presence was in the 100 block of Avenue P South early Wednesday morning, investigat­ing what police deemed a suspicious death. Police received a report about an injured man in the area of Avenue P South between 21st and 22nd Streets and went to the scene around 4:30 a.m., according to a police media release.

Police are not releasing informatio­n about the nature of the man’s injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s next of kin have been notified. His name was not released.

As of 7:30 a.m., police had the entire block cordoned off with yellow police tape. At least three marked and two unmarked police vehicles were at the scene with lights flashing. Two officers were standing outside one of the apartment buildings on the block.

Traffic restrictio­ns in place for most of the morning were removed before noon.
