Thanks to workers who fix water lines

-

I woke up Feb. 4, only to find out that we had no water in my home on Nahanni Drive. A peek outside showed that a water main had broken across the street. Arghhh!

There were city water employees out there putting up roadblocks and working. The temperature was -27 C and with the wind chill, it was close to -40 C. The workers had already dropped off a card on my front door indicating what had happened and what the procedure would be. Soon after, a potable water trailer was parked nearby.

As the morning continued into afternoon, more equipment arrived including a back hoe which soon began digging. As myself and neighbours hung out in our warm homes watching the Super Bowl pregame shows, the city workers were working away outside. By late afternoon it had warmed up to a balmy -18 C, but with the wind chill, it was still close to -30.

Throughout the day, city employees continued to work outside. Once it got dark, they had spotlights to help them see what they were doing.

The Super Bowl game was over around 9 p.m., which was about the same time our water was back on. By 10 p.m., they had filled the hole back in and cleaned up and removed all their equipment and potable water trailer.

I am sure at least some of them would have much rather gone to church, or stayed in a warm home with either their families, or hung out with friends watching the Super Bowl game.

I just wanted to say thank you. Jerry Demeria, Saskatoon
