Firearms recovered after police pursuit

-

RCMP took two youths into custody and recovered several firearms after an alleged break-and-enter and police pursuit in the North Battleford area.

On Thursday morning, officers received a complaint of a breakand-enter in progress at a home in the small community of Denholm, according to an RCMP news release.

They were advised the suspects had left the area, reportedly taking with them numerous guns, including high-calibre hunting rifles.

The release said responding officers spotted a suspect vehicle driving west at a “high rate of speed.”

They followed the vehicle through North Battleford and attempted to stop it once it reached the north end of the city. RCMP said the vehicle failed to stop, at which time a pursuit began.

An officer pulled in front of the fleeing car, slowing down in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle, which then rear-ended the RCMP cruiser and came to a stop, the release stated.

Several firearms recovered from the vehicle matched the description of weapons reported stolen from the home in Denholm, it noted.

Although the vehicle sustained “considerable damage,” no one was injured as a result of the pursuit, it added.
